8/1 (Tues): DAY 1!
I'm definitely not where I want to be, but hoping that constantly running will get me there quicker. Last time I did this I was maintaining a pretty regular lifting routine a few days a week too. I'm not doing that now and not sure if I'm going to. I think I may consider it once I feel comfortable at an hour, but I'm barely eeking out 45 min as it is.
Also, Harper is kind of driving Jess & I nuts. She essentially never stops talking and whines for the tablet and/or treats all the time (even when she's just had one or the other). Jess laid with her for an hour before trading and then I laid with her for 2 hours until I fell asleep and I still think she was tossing until after 10p. She never stops moving either. It's like living with a crazy person.
Ran 5, 7:13/min miles (100 p.u.)
Also, been kind of working on 100 push ups (p.u.) a day with a wide range of completion. Success today though!
8/2: Hills program on the treadmill with average 2.0 incline. 5 miles again. (100 p.u.)
8/3: Seriously, WTF? Why am I this tired. Struggle to get to 2. TWO! Argh! Did 20 min on the bike to at least keep some cardio up. (100 p.u.)
8/4: Managed to eek out 4, getting a little better on energy.
8/5 (Sat): Outside run with hills. Despite training with the adjusting hills to simulate the outdoors, the actual outdoors are a bit more challenging. Still, did well and made it up all the hills without stopping. 4.17.
Harper and I met Jess in Northpark for lunch (astounding wings at North Park Beer Co)
That's it for week 1 as I like to count my weeks Sun - Sat, so the final week will be 9 days.

Here we go again...Week 1
It's been 5 years since I ran 1 mile per day for a year and I'm doing it again. The tentative plan is to do it every 5 years.
What's new this time?

What's new this time?
- We live in San Deigo now!
- There's a Harper in the picture (for the whole time, not just the last 2 months)

- And biggest of all, Jess is going to do it with me!
- Also, our friends Marlena & Charlie who live in Portland are in!
I don't think Jess is going to go for shear mileage like I am, but having her on board should help with co-ordination and logistics.
Goals & thoughts
Goals & thoughts
- Last time I hit 2,000 miles. Minimum goal this time; 2,018.
- Ideal goal 2,190 (6 miles a day)
- However I may give heart rate running a try, which would likely drop my total milage BUT help me achieve
- 90 min chipped half marathon (I've done it on a treadmill but that's not as impressive)

7/28/14 - Comic Con 2014
First Comic Con that we're in SD for! Didn't get tickets because the new 'waiting room' system never gave me the chance to actually buy them and I didn't have $150 to spend on scalped tickets. Which is ok, since we didn't really have enough to also get a baby sitter and taking Harper with us at this age is a little much.
Lots of fun still. Went down Friday around 3 and met up with Aaron Muther (Ted and Brian Holt were there too). Lucky bastards got in through Target. Fortunate for me as they got us speed pass tickets to the Adult Swim Experience
Plus, there was lots of cool stuff to see:

Aaron and I went for some beers and there's nothing much cooler than sitting at a pub while Winter Soldier and Iron Fist walk in, Spiderman goes by yelling in a car and you leave and see Apocalypse in the street. Then, on the train ride home people were talking about what is happening in comics currently like I normally hear people talk about sports. It was awesome!

Next day, after a fun pool party with some new parents from a meetup group Jess, Harper, and I went back down. A bit harder to get around and do stuff with H, but we still had fun.

Week Final
Well, turns out the addition of a baby and a busy work schedule cut down on my time to actually write here so the last 8 weeks went without an update.
Some highlights though;
Some highlights though;
- Dropped lifting from my routine to get more miles in headed for a goal of 2,000 for the year. Turns out just running is a lot easier that way.
- Hit a max week mileage of 53.25 miles
- Sticking to a mile a day on vacation sucks! We went to Petoskey, WE fest, week at Big Cormorant Lake, and Detroit over a 3 week span in August. It's not the doing it, it's the logistical time.
Things I learned
- The hardest part of running a mile a day is the logistics. Always go for the run as early in the day as possible because you never know where things will go
- Running more is easier. An 8 miler on Monday is harder if Sunday was a 1 miler not a 4 miler.
- Invest in insoles. I've run roughly 1350 miles on my current pair of shoes with the same Dr Scholls inserts and I have had no pain or injuries that I couldn't fix by changing run patterns (i.e. I had some thigh tightness that I fixed by doing downhill sprints and leg exhaustion fixed by increasing distance but decreasing pace for a few runs)
- It's impossible to keep weight on. I dropped 20 lbs that I didn't need to loose and still ate everything in sight.
- Reintegrating a lifting routine sucks! I feel beat up and sore after every workout and run only days now are so much more difficult than when I was just running. I see this both as proof that cross training is necessary for all around fitness but that great running results only from running.
- When I started my tired pace was 8:00 min/mile, relaxed was 7:45, and in the zone was 7:30. When I finished my tired pace is 7:30 min/mile, relaxed is 7:10, and in the zone is 6:45. Great running comes from more running!
And now some stats!

Week 40
In which EVERY THING CHANGES FOREVER!
5/19/13 - TONS of rain today, ended up getting soaked on my 5 miler but it was a nice spring rain, refreshing and invigorating. Jess had some pretty severe pains today, worst yet, but relaxing and some water helped. Almost time!
5/20/13 - Gorgeous day out! Went for a 10.25 and completed the entire thing but walked a few times. Have a hard time catching my breath. Then got back to the Y and someone took my workout shirt from the outside nook it's in! Seriously, who steals a sweaty workout shirt? An older dude who volunteers there and runs outside a lot too said he had the same thing happen before and advised me on where to put my shirt from now on. Then he found an extra Y shirt, that's actually nicer than the one taken, and gave it to me! After that there's no way I can't make a pledge to the 'Y Give Day' he was promoting.
5/21/13- We're volunteering for Target today so I hit the gym early. Weather is crap, rain and cold! Lifted and ran 3.25 because I'm just tired! Raked some lawns that really didn't need it in North Minneapolis for volunteering. Jess and I went to the breastfeeding class at Fairview tonight. Learned a surprising amount. 1 week until she's here!!
5/22/13 - Seriously. With the rain and 40 degrees!? It's almost #)@*$# June! Ran 10.5 before work, put together the batters for Jess's birthday dessert tomorrow! 'Hamburgers' with chocolate chip cookies for buns, brownie for burger, and buttercream frosting for toppings. All homemade!
5/23/13 - Jess's Birthday!! Jess is at work until 5:30, her last day for 4 months!! I decorated the house, got flowers, and made her hamburger cookie dessert (homemade chocolate chip cookies, brownies, and frosting with the cookies as buns, the brownie as burger, and the frosting as toppings)! Then we had our last Pizza night before the baby arrives! Ran 4.25 + lift
5/24/13 - Friday of Memorial Day weekend. Ran 10.25. We've got plans to meet up with Natalia, Riz, & Alosha at Psycho Suzie's to celebrate Jess's birthday. I get home and Jess says she had a great morning but suddenly feels ill and even throws up! She rallies though and we head to dinner and have a good time. We get home about 8. At 11:30 I'm woken up by Jess saying "My water just broke!" OMG! Ok, we keep ourselves calm. call the hospital, get what we need, and head out. Looks like we won't be waiting til Tuesday for the planned c-section!

5/25/13 - 1:05am we welcome into the world Harper Grace Foltz. 10lbs 8oz, 21.5", and utterly adorable! The delivery went well, though Jess was a little nervous about the c-section. After delivery I got to hold Harper for a few pics with Mom, then Harper and I waited in the recovery area for Jess to get stitched back up. We were up all night but we're all doing well. Mid-day I headed home for a few things and put in a 5K.

Week 39
5/12/13 - Jess's first Mother's Day!!! We went out for a great breakfast at Figlio's, relaxed at home, and then got some Coldstone. Baby girl is going to be here before we know it!!
SO do not feel like a run. Ran 2 outside.
5/13/13 - I don't know what my deal is but I'm just not mentally up for running still. It's rainy out so I'm stuck inside when I thought I'd be out. Ran 3.33 on the treadmill, gave that up and ran 3 more on the track (which is kind of worse), then just stopped. Hopefully tomorrow & Wed will be better. Ugh.
5/14/13 - It hit 98 in the Twin Cities today, which is a record high for this time of year. Two weeks ago Rochester had 18" of snow in May meaning there was a record snowfall and high temp within TWO WEEKS of each other! Lifted and ran 4.33 outside. It was a lot hard than 4.33 should be.
5/15/13 - Got up and was running by 6:35am. It's high 50's and 7mph winds. Ran around Lake Calhoun and back plus some for 10.3. It went alright, 1:15:30 (about 7:20min/miles) but I'm still more tired than I feel I should be. It's either just a tough week or I'm still adjusting to outside running. Hopefully the former.
5/16/13 - Up early again and ran 4.25 before work, then lifted over lunch. A little nicer to break it up. SURPRISING amount of people out running before 7am. Go team!
5/17/13 - Got up early and went in (this is becoming a habit) to the gym. Watched Superman Unbound and at least Conner agrees with me that it's pretty boring. Ran 9.5 because I was just tired and that's where I tapped out. Jess and I went to see The Great Gatsby. I just reread the book and it's almost exactly the same. Kinda boring. DiCaprio was, as expected, fantastic.
5/18/13 - Rain rain rain! Brooke and Chloe came over and did our hair (cut mine, dyed Jess's) since we're having a baby and she's having a baby and no one expects to have time for this for the forseeable future. We're all excited though. 4th of July is going to be crazy at the cabin though!
Also, Karen stopped by to visit before she leaves for a summer in Grand Rapids MI! Yay internship!
Ran 4.
Week total: 40.71!

Week 38
5/5/13 - Jess and I relaxed in the morning, then I ran 6, and we raked and bagged all the leaves in the yard (fun). Also, CINCO de MAYO!! We tried for El Paraiso on Nicollet but it was PACKED so we went down to Chevy's, which was great! Decorated excellently and the guac and margarita were awesome!
5/6/13 - Ran 10.25 outside. Glorious!
5/7/13 - Ran 4.5 outside after lifting, got caught by a train. Considered running along side it, climbing up, and jumping through. It was going slow and I know I could do it. However I also know there's no room for error in something like that and considering the bike accident a month ago Jess would kill me if the train didn't. So I went to run up and over a bridge, out of my way, and JUST as I cross the bridge the train ends meaning I saved no time at all. Gah!
5/8/13 - Ran outside again, tiring, but nice. 10.25
5/9/13 - Came in to the gym early before work and I'm just tired. Did 2/3 of the lifting and ran 3.25.
5/10/13 - In to the gym again early, feel pretty great though. Ran 10.75 before work.
5/11/13 - It LOOKS so nice out but it's in the 40's with 25-35 mph winds! Ran 5 in 34:20, last mile at 6:13 pace.
Week total 50!!
