Week 19

12/16/12 - Lazy day / recovery from Holiday party (see previous post).  Ran 5.0 while watching Premium Rush.  Highly disappointing!


12/17/12 - Went out for river run, right by the U "Oh my god it smells like fresh donuts you bastards!!" Ran 10.10


12/18/12 - Ran 2.05 + lift


12/19/12 - We're in Cali trip! Flight out was a little rough for Jess. Very motion sick :-( Also Frontier Air crams you in like mad, not a fan. Condo is really nice tho. Ran 9.45 on Mission beach. Lots of hills here if you want them! This is the view from our place.  Notice the walkway. Its about 3 miles end to end all along the ocean. We saw dolphins playing in the surf this morning !


12/20/12 - Day 2 in Mission beach and we're off to the mall. Open air mall, cause it's Cali and it only drops to high 50's for winter. Rough. Ran the boardwalk twice, 6.55m

12/21/12 - Mayan Apocalypse Day! Or not. Time for the zoo, yay!  Not really.  Jess and I, not fans of the zoo, but is good family time.  Also, Elephants!  Jess got a lot of good practice with the new camera in too :) Ran from the condo to the end of the boardwalk and back, 3.5

12/22/12 - Ran from the condo to the end of the boardwalk and back, 3.5.  Jess and I are driving up to Balboa Island to visit with her cousins.  The decorated houses and boat parade were a LOT of fun.  Seriously, check out the link, those pictures barely do it justice.

Week 18




12/9/12 - Holy crap snow!!  It's been snowing since about midnight and we woke up to 5" or so, and it snowed at least another 5" throughout the day.  Thank god we bought a snowblower!!  BOTH neighbors were out shoveling, ouch!  I think I will have to help them out in the future.  Ran 5.0

12/10/12 - We were supposed to have a team offsite today but because of the snow, and that our boss lives 20 miles from downtown, 1/3 of the people couldn't make it.  Thankfully I had brought my computer with me Friday so I just worked from home.  Also ran 10.1 while watching Dylan Dog: Dead of Night.  I liked it.

12/11/12- Ran 2.05 + lift

12/12/12 - TWELVE TWELVE TWELVE!!!  Cooooool.  Ran the hill program at level 8, since level 10 nearly killed me and kept me sore for a week last time.  8 miles on hill program, 2 miles after.  10 miler x 2 this week!

12/13/12 - Ran 2.05 + lift

12/14/12 - The downtown Y just got all new treadmills!  They look really nice.  However I haven't run outside at all this week so I'm doing that today.  10 miler # 3 for the week!!

12/15/12 - Holiday party!!  Turned out great!  Jess did an amazing job organizing it and Prime Bar did a great job setting up and bringing the wine and apps out in waves.  Also, the white elephant exchange was an uber hit!  Nerf gun, giant, flask, and beer coozie cowboy hat were hot items.  Also, Jake brought a beta fish that Chris Washick got (not to his wife's delight)!  Jess wound up with a CASE of chocolate pudding and I got a framed copy of this gem from Ryan Walters (on purpose!) Ran 3.0  New week total!

Week 17

12/2/12 - New shoe day!!  New balance 880's.  Gotta treadmill run to see if they work.  Ran 4.0

12/3/12 - Shoes didn't give me any issue yesterday.  Ran 8.35 river run

12/4/12 - Ran 2.0 + lift.  Jess's 14 week checkup!  Everything is great, heard lil baby's heartbeat! 
Haven't had any issues running but later in the day as Jess & I were at the mall my ankles were sore.  That's new.

12/5/12 - Pizza party at work for lunch so ran 7.5 with 7 x 800s before work.  Ankles feel a little sore, going to try different inserts.

12/6/12 - Ran 2.0 + lift, but did it on the indoor track instead of treadmill.  Doesn't feel terrible but I can tell it might if I went for any distance.  Going to try double inserts tomorrow.

12/7/12 - Ran 9.45 river run today.  SLIGHT twing in my ankle but ignored it.  Seems fine now.  Though it was only 30 or so out this is the first run of this winter where I started to numb up, though I never notice it until I get inside and start to warm up.  Usually it's most apparent in my jaw being numb and my speech being affected.   That happened today, but also my stomach was numb, and my knuckles!   Weird!


12/8/12 - Jess and I had a relaxing, lazy morning followed by Christmas shopping at Patina (the place is a goldmine when it comes to Christmas gifts!) and Target, which was as insane as to be expected.  Then a few beers at Toby Keith's with Walters, LaVenture, and the Motschenbacher's!  Ran 1.7 to get an even 35 for the week.

Week 16

11/25/12 - Got up and ran 2.4 right away.  Cold again!  Came across a runner with the same pace as me, said he was running 12-13!  Good luck with that!
Stopped by the Cormorant Pub on our way back from Fargo to meet up with the Nerdhals: Tim, Tracy and their kids Troy, Tyson & Talyn (twins).  Lots of alliteration going on there!



11/26/12 - A little cold for me to want to run outside.  Ran the Hills program on the treadmill.  8 miles @ 7:30 min/mile.  Tiring!!  At one point I was running at an 8 % incline!

11/27/12 - Calves tight from yesterday.  Ran 2.0 + lift

11/28/12 - Ran 7.65 with 10 x 400's

11/29/12 - Calves still tight from Monday!  Bloody hill program!  Ran 2.0 + lift

11/30/12 - So, big surprise, my calves are still tight, even though I've been stretching extra after every run.  On the plus side this seemed to really make hills easy as I ran the 8.35 river run.

12/1/12 - Ran 4.9.  Also Second Annual Rosenfeldt Tacky Christmas Party!!  My sweater lit up thanks to a discarded display at work.  Lots of fun, food, fam, and terrible outfits!   Though it was close, I think Ben takes the cake.

Week 15

11/18/12 - Knee's not really sore from yesterday but it did start to ache near the end of my run so I figure I should still take this week slow.  Ran 1.0 

11/19/12 - Ran my old downtown route, 6.25m.  Knee started to tighten up around 6 miles so it's getting better.

11/20/12 - Ran 1.0 & lifted

11/21/12 - Ran 6.25m

11/22/12 - Thanksgiving!! Ran 4.4 and it was cold!  Wind chill at 0.  Luckily 2 Thanksgiving dinners (Thankfully <-- HAH! at noon and 5:30) helped warm me back up.



11/23/12 - Black Friday in Fargo, ND  Jess was up and out by 7am with Tara (sister) and Cheryl (Mom).  I chilled at home with her Dad.  Went to the gym, lifted and ran 1.0.
That night, Jess, Jon, Diane, and I played a 3.5-4 hour game of Mexican Train Domino's! I got last, woo!!

11/24/12 - Hit the gym again, ran 5.5 with a 3.1 (5K) tempo run in there.

Week 14

11/11/12 - Pretty quiet day.  Jess and I simply could not find anything else to do and ended up at our 2nd movie of the weekend, Pitch Perfect.  I'll admit it wasn't as face punchingly terrible as I had anticipated.  Ran 3.0

11/12/12 - Surprise snow and freeze leaves ALL roads frozen with a layer of snow on top = the most dangerous possible conditions.  Well aware of this I went as slow as possible biking in, and still wiped out 3 times.  The last time my leg bent so badly that I lost my breath and could barely move for a full minute.  My knee got worse as the day went on so I left work early so I could get home and ice it and keep it up.  I walked a mile at 3.7mph as this was literally as fast as I could go.  Jess wasn't thrilled with me doing this, but I did get my mile in.



11/13/12 - Worked from home today to stay off my leg as much as possible.  Iced it most of the day.  I can walk, but it feels almost numb and doesn't bend far without pain.  Ran a 10 min mile.  Took FOREVER!

11/14/12 - Knee is getting slowly better, but still need to take it easy.  Did some lifting, sitting down for exercises I typically stand during.  Ran a 9:30 min mile

11/15/12 - How could I have forgotten about swimming?  Fool!  Anyways, ran an 8:34 min mile and then was able to swim 1000 m in a go, not too bad considering I haven't swam regularly in about 6 months. 
Only downside - I've lost about 10 lbs since then from all the running and my trunks were a little looser than I would have liked.  There was no teasing at all from my lovely wife about 'showing off the goods' for the 'boys at the gym'.  None at all!

11/16/12 - Knee's getting there, but not great yet.  Ran 1.0 at normal speed of 7:30 min but don't want to push it.  Also lifted.  Went to the New Hope Cinema Grill with Amee & Clint to see the Disgruntled Clown. Hilarious and lots of fun!  Definitely the place to go for a movie and food/drinks.  Cheap, nice layout, and unlike Showplace Icon, you get an actual table around you while watching the show.

11/17/12 - Took the car in to have the brakes checked.  They're both still at 60%, BOOSH!  Ran 4.25m around Cedar lake.  Knee felt good for the majority of the trip.  A little sore afterwards, I'll probably take it slow tomorrow to be safe.  Jess & I had dinner at Ciao Bella (goat cheese & chicken lasagna was awesome!) and Jess had something we'd never heard of, non-alcoholic wine!  (hint: it's pretty much grape juice)

Week 13

11/4/12 - Made scones (bacon parmesan & chocolate chip). Note to self 1 slice of bacon per scone for best results. Felt energetic, ran 3. Jess made her awesome butternut squash soup!

11/5/12 - Remember remember the 5th of November cause it's bloody windy out!  Ran 9.5

11/6/12 - Ran 2, and did 2/3 of lifting. Tired.

11/7/12 - Comp shop Wednesday for D70! Set out to run 7.5 with 7x800s. Made it 7 miles with 4x800. :-(

11/8/12 - Obviously I feel fine today. Ran 2.5 to make up for yesterday + lift

11/9/12 - Headboard delivered! Jess and I went to see Skyfall! Her fav Bond to date, I'm still slightly partial to Casino Royals but it is awesome!  Ran 8.5



11/10/11 - Haircut Saturday!  Ran 4.5 for my highest count week to date, 37 miles!
Also, went out to dinner for Mohammad's 30th birthday.  Happy 3.0 buddy!

Week 12

10/28/12 - Halloween Party = huge hit!!  (see previous post)  Animal fries (aka poutine) at Prime Bar = awesome!  Ran 1.0

10/29/12 - Getting colder out!  Ran 9.40

10/30/12 - All day cooking class at Cooks of Crocus Hill.  Lots of fun! 
Highlights.  Mayo = 2 egg yokes to 1c. oil + mustard (dijon preferably) and spices. 
New scone recipe!!
Got good tips on wok use, #1 being that my range probably isn't hot enough.  We cooked on a, no kidding, foot high flame!
Homemade pasta?  Yeah, Jess and I haven't let ours properly rest before rolling out :-p 
Meat - cut against the grain, not with it.  Ran 2.6 to make 10 with yesterday.

10/31/12 - Happy Halloween!! Even though pretty much no one else did, I dressed up at work.  Also, we got 4 trick or treaters, double last year!!  Ran 7.5 11 x 400s

11/1/12 - First day of November!  Ran 2.0 + lift

11/2/12 - It's not getting any warmer out there but I'm still seeing plenty of other runners!  Go MPLS!  Ran 9.5.  I'm at 32 for the week and still have a day left!  BOOSH!!  Jess and I went out to dinner at The Butcher Block.  We were both pretty neutral on it.

11/3/12 - Finished with the fall leaf cleanup (woo!)  Ran 3.0 for a week total of 35!  Dinner at Butcher & Boar was very good!

Week 11

10/21/12 - High 60's today!  Jess & I rearranged the basement (again) to fit in the beverage fridge, cabinent, and wine cooler.  Wine cooler won't fit and countertop is too small :(  Jess = unhappy.  Hopefully we'll get this fixed by the Halloween par-tay this Sat!  Ran 1.0

10/22/12 - Added a mile to my route.  9.36m total.  Tired at the end, but not terrible.  However my foot hurts so much now I can hardly walk and my knee is sore and doesn't want to work right, but doesn't exactly hurt.  Both on my right side.  Great!

10/23/12 - Ran 2.0 + lift

10/24/12 - 4 x 1600, total 7.5m

10/25/12 - First ultrasound!! Ran 2.0 + lift

10/26/12 - Sat around all afternoon waiting for countertop to be installed, ran 4.5, then Jess and I worked on setting up for Halloween til midnight.  TIRED!

10/27/12 - Ran 2.0, feet killing me.  Halloween party!!   Kate & Adam dressed up as Jess & Pete.  Trippy!


Week 10

10/14/12 - Ran 1.0 in the rain in Petoskey.  Made record time back, 9.5 hrs!  Rainy Sunday = fast driving in the U.P.  Mom going a little stir crazy from having to sit at home and recover from her knee surgery :(

10/15/12 - Took the day off with Jess to rest.  Worst run I've had since I started this.  Simply could not make my body work right, I think the 22 hours of sitting in the car over the weekend are the cause.  Ran 6.25

10/16/12 - Ran 2.0 & lift

10/17/12 - Ran 7 x 800's at 9.5mph, total distance 7.5m

10/18/12 - Ran 2.0 & lift

10/19/12 - Ran 8.25, still feel overly weak.

10/20/12 - Sprinted 4.25 around Cedar Lake, 31 min.  Josh & Laurie's wedding at TCF Bank stadium!!  Lovely wedding and reception.  DJ played a lot of 70's & 80's stuff, very little music from this millenium.  Great time was however, had by all!

10/13/12 - Petoskey. Ran 1.0 after a 600 mile drive.  FUN!   Also, today was the Zombie Pub Crawl, first one we've missed in 5 years!  :(

Week 8

9/30/12 - Morning at the Farmer's Market for MORE pumpkins and tomatoes for more soup because Jess loved the bisque I made a lot :)  Then we biked (Jess rode the Nice Ride MN bike :) to the Twins game and had ridiculously amazing seats.

10/1/12 - Comp shop this afternoon, got in to the gym early to get it done quick as possible.  Ran 6 x 800's for a total of 7.0

10/2/12 - Ran 2.0 + lift.  Finally got my Tablet!!  Motorola Xoom.  Boosh!!

10/3/12 - First time I've ran the river run and had to stop.  Simply feel exhausted.  Ran 8.2

10/4/12 - Ran 2.0 + lift.

10/5/12 - SO cold!  And 25 mph winds!  Hoodie, gloves, and leggings.  2 days ago I was in shorts and shirtless.  Ran down the bike trail from downtown to the Cedar Lake edge, then back through the woods so I was running into the wind to start.  Ran 8.0

10/6/12 - Bruce & Cherly are in town.  Totally blown away by the news :) VERY NEARLY forgot to run as we were out and about (Sever's corn maze & The Lowry).  Ran 1.0

Week 7

9/23/12 - Spent the night in Fargo last night.  Drove home to a gloriously nice day if a bit cold.  Made a fire and relaxed with Jess.  Ran 1.0

9/24/12 - Twins game at work on Wed = need to keep that day shorter than otherwise would.  Ran the River path 8.36.  Nice day out.

9/25/12 - Ran + lift.  2.0

9/26/12 - Ran 3 x 1600's at home before work.  7.0 total.  Twins vs. Yankee's noon game!  Great, but cold, day for it.  Twins lost 6-2, all 6 scored in the 2nd!

9/27/12 - Ran + lift 2.0

9/28/12 - Reverse River run thru U of M campus.  Gorgeous Day.  8.45.  Oh, also Jess tells me SHE'S PREGNANT!!!
9/29/12 - Jess and I spend the day going to Menards looking for cabinent stuff, having lunch at Lyndale Taphouse because it's 80 out (no beer for Jess makes her sad :(  and then carving pumpkins! Ran 2.0

Week 6

9/16/12 - Spent Saturday at the MN Renaissance Festival.  Took over an hour to go the last 3 miles!  Jess and I walked in swearing we'd never come back, had a great time and left (with some awesome chalices) definitely wanting to come back!

Then wound up at Vegas Lounge and made some new friends from Hudson. 
    This led to not a lot of sleep and the need for someone (me) to get up and make a side (bean dip) to take to the Rancourts for lunch/Vikings game.  Also, Jon's in town to help us build steps onto the deck!
    Could barely stay awake during the game, and afterwards Jon and I had to go to Menard's to get all the lumber, which took about an hour and a half.  Once we got back Brooke and Chloe were there and we were hungry so I dropped some brats & hot dogs on the grill on low and went for a 1.0 mile run without anyone knowing I was gone!  

9/17/12 - Out and building by 8:30.  It was in the 80's yesterday and it's in the 50's now!  Spent all day working to build the deck (thankfully Jess & I were there helping, I have no idea how Jon would have done this alone).  Got done, starving and tired, but still managed to get 1.0 mile in :)



9/18/12 - Ran 3.0 & lifted, MIGHT be doing the Autumn Trail Series 3.5 tomorrow so don't want to overdo it today.

9/19/12 - 40 mph gusts = no desire to race.  Ran the River run 8.0 m.  Was going to run it backwards (i.e. easier) but then thought I'd run it again Friday and would probably prefer the easy run then.

9/20/12 - 1.6m + lift

9/21/12 - Ran the river run backwards and added in going over the U of M bridge which added about 0.25 to the course.  Legs are just dead tired and the whole trip back was into the wind. Yay!  8.25m

9/22/12 - Headed to Fargo to watch Devon's football game (he's in 4th grade).  FREEZING out at the game.  40 degrees with wind felt more like 20!  Jess & I went to this awesome YMCA though that had stationary bikes with video game displays.  As the terrain changed so did the resistance.  Pretty cool!  I played a game where you chase dragons.  Also ran 4.0

Week 5

9/9/12 - 1 month complete!  The Twins mascot race was a lot of fun (Mascot race at 16:40 mark )!  I did not realize how hard core the mosquito and Babe the Blue Ox guys were going to run.  Mosquito & I (Spot) had a photo finish, which he won by a nose (pun!).  Great time.  Ran 1.0

9/10/12 - Ran 7.0 with 10 x 400 sprints.  Taking days to run 1.0 is great for R&R as this run was relatively easy.

9/11/12 - Ran 1.6 + lifting

9/12/12 - Ran a very fun and fast 7.33 of my downtown loop  53:52 min

9/13/12 - First day to feel tired in the legs, ran 1.4 + lifting

9/14/12 - Totally forgot about this route but ran the old Riverwalk + U campus from when we lived in the Churchill.  This is a tough and hilly run.  I had some old biddy give me crap about running in the bike lane, even though it was only her and I there and I was on the edge of the damn lane.  I then proceeded to beat her up the West River Parkway hill onto the E Franklin Ave bridge even though she had a bike. 


Conversation went like this:
Old hippy: *snarky tone* You know you're supposed to be in the lane over there.
Me: *annoyed sarcasm* Thanks
Then she gives me a look
Me: Hey, there wasn't even a lane until just now, get off my back lady!

Then I beat her up the hill.  Boosh! (and or Kra-kow) 
Total distance: 7.75m

Week 4

9/2/12 - Ran 2.0  Spent most of the morning getting the house ready for the party.  The backyard looks amazing!  Jess has done a really great job!

9/3/12 - Party was a huge success!  Everyone stayed in the back yard the whole time and we had a lot of fun.  Ended up karaoke'ing until 4am!  Getting out to run was not high on my list.  Ran 2.0

9/4/12 - Due to meetings and such couldn't run until after work.  5.0 miles was WAY too difficult.  My legs are simply tired all the time.  I really need to take a couple days to rest or this is going to end before I even complete a month.

9/5/12 - Ran 1.0 mile.  Lowest day yet but I need the rest.  Lifted after

9/6/12 - Ran 1.0 mile again.  Want to see if a couple low days will make a difference.  Lifted again.

9/7/12 - Ran my downtown route of 6.25 about 2 min faster than typical!  The run went very well, the 2 days 'rest' really helped!

9/8/12 - Twin Mascot race tonight!!  Pretty excited but don't want to wear myself out.  Biked 20 miles (to and from the Donut Cooperative and to Downtown to get Zapped) and ran 2.0

This is my lowest week total yet (19.3), but I've learned that I can take a couple days rest and it helps recovery a lot!

Week 3

8/26/12 - Ran 2.0  This is after coming back from the State Fair.  We were there almost 6 hours, so a LOT of walking. 
Road the Zipper (Jess's favorite),
saw the fiddle contest (Jim was MC and a girl played a fiddle version of 'Smooth Criminal' with a bow that was sparkly like Michael Jackson's famous glove.  AWESOME!),
had beer on a stick,
poutine (mmmmm),

awesome wheat beer flights at the new craft brewers exhibit,

cheese curds while watching all day karaoke,
a pronto pup after the zipper ride,
crab balls while walking around looking for art,
and a salmon wrap. 
All in all a great time at the fair but a surprising low amount of food for us (since we split everything).

8/27/12 - Ran 7.0  6 x 800m sprints

8/28/12 - Ran 3.1 + lifting.   Surprisingly tough 3 to be honest

8/29/12  - Set out to run 8, utterly exhausted at 6.5 and literally could barely walk up the overpass stairs in the sculpture garden.  Did manage to finish out with 7.5 running total.   Starting to have concerns about my energy level during these long runs.  I feel it MUST get better, not worse!

8/30/12 - Jess and I built our fire pit last night.  Went well but the bricks are HEAVY and both our backs were feeling it when we were done.  Set out for 5.5 today and got that, but was only able to do a few pullups instead of a full lift as planned.  Also:  the outside socket at my left hip has been bothering me since last night.  I was going to try for a total of 35 this week but may have to settle for 30.

8/31/12 - Last day of August and first of Labor Day weekend!  Ran 5.0

9/1/12 - Most of the Day has been spent getting ready for our Labor Day party tomorrow, we got a new outside bar on sale at Menards.  A floor sample, because it was the last they had.  This is like the 4th big floor sample item we've bought, all by coincidence.  Plus a new wroght iron table and chairs.  Ran 4.0 to have my highest weekly total so far, 34 miles!

Week 2

8/21/12 - First day with new bike!!  9 mile bike.  4.5 mile run. 

Also, Won the Packaging Team Olympics (here's a pic of me winning the final race by jumping instead of running) and got the chance to Run the bases at Target field as Bullseye!



8/22/12 - SO TIRED today.  Ran 2.66 (20 min) + lift.  Just want to sleep.

8/23/12 - Ran 6.25, slow pace.  Massive run blister on my right foot is making me limp. Ugh!

8/24/12 - Set out to run 5.66, ran 6.0.  Much easier than the previous day :)

8/25/12 - Ran 4.0.  Didn't have a lot of time today, spent the morning painting the spare bedroom downstairs, then ran, then went to tailgate at the Saint's game with Riz & Natalia, then went to Jon & Merrin's housewarming, THEN went to Brix's batcheolor party in NE.  They had a party bus and I stuck with them until they decided to go to the Deuce Deuce.  Skipped out and met Jess & Julie @ 1029.

Week 1

Awhile ago I heard about something that a guy I went to high school was attempting to do.  Run at least 1 mile per day for an entire year.  I always thought this sounded like an interesting idea.

Well, I've been running a lot this summer and last Friday realized that I had run the past 5 days in a row.  Maybe I should give this challenge a go.

So, here's the blog dedicated to that goal.  Let's see how I do.

Day 1: 8-13-12:  5.25 miles.  7 400m sprints
Day 2: 8-14-12:  2 miles + lifting
Day 3: 8-15-12:  6.25 miles through downtown MPLS
Day 4: 8-16-12:  2 miles + lifting
Day 5: 8-17-12:  10 miles, Cedar Lake & Theodore Wirth
Day 6: 8-18-12:  4.5 miles, 7 min/mile treadmill
Day 7: 8-19-12:  5 miles, 7 min/mile treadmill (Day after lots of drinking at Shamrock's for a fundraiser)
Day 8: 8-20-12:  5 miles.  2 1600m sprints.  (A lot more difficult that the previous 3 days)
