Week Final

Well, turns out the addition of a baby and a busy work schedule cut down on my time to actually write here so the last 8 weeks went without an update.
Some highlights though;

  • Dropped lifting from my routine to get more miles in headed for a goal of 2,000 for the year.  Turns out just running is a lot easier that way.
  • Hit a max week mileage of 53.25 miles
  • Sticking to a mile a day on vacation sucks!  We went to Petoskey, WE fest, week at Big Cormorant Lake, and Detroit over a 3 week span in August. It's not the doing it, it's the logistical time.

Things I learned
  • The hardest part of running a mile a day is the logistics.  Always go for the run as early in the day as possible because you never know where things will go
  • Running more is easier. An 8 miler on Monday is harder if Sunday was a 1 miler not a 4 miler.
  • Invest in insoles. I've run roughly 1350 miles on my current pair of shoes with the same Dr Scholls inserts and I have had no pain or injuries that I couldn't fix by changing run patterns (i.e. I had some thigh tightness that I fixed by doing downhill sprints and leg exhaustion fixed by increasing distance but decreasing pace for a few runs)
  • It's impossible to keep weight on.  I dropped 20 lbs that I didn't need to loose and still ate everything in sight.
  • Reintegrating a lifting routine sucks! I feel beat up and sore after every workout and run only days now are so much more difficult than when I was just running. I see this both as proof that cross training is necessary for all around fitness but that great running results only from running.
  • When I started my tired pace was 8:00 min/mile, relaxed was 7:45, and in the zone was 7:30. When I finished my tired pace is 7:30 min/mile, relaxed is 7:10, and in the zone is 6:45.  Great running comes from more running!
And now some stats!

Yeah, that's right, Loki.

Week 40

In which EVERY THING CHANGES FOREVER!

5/19/13 - TONS of rain today, ended up getting soaked on my 5 miler but it was a nice spring rain, refreshing and invigorating.  Jess had some pretty severe pains today, worst yet, but relaxing and some water helped.  Almost time!

5/20/13 - Gorgeous day out!  Went for a 10.25 and completed the entire thing but walked a few times.  Have a hard time catching my breath.  Then got back to the Y and someone took my workout shirt from the outside nook it's in!  Seriously, who steals a sweaty workout shirt?  An older dude who volunteers there and runs outside a lot too said he had the same thing happen before and advised me on where to put my shirt from now on. Then he found an extra Y shirt, that's actually nicer than the one taken, and gave it to me!  After that there's no way I can't make a pledge to the 'Y Give Day' he was promoting.

5/21/13- We're volunteering for Target today so I hit the gym early.  Weather is crap, rain and cold!  Lifted and ran 3.25 because I'm just tired!  Raked some lawns that really didn't need it in North Minneapolis for volunteering.  Jess and I went to the breastfeeding class at Fairview tonight.  Learned a surprising amount.  1 week until she's here!!

5/22/13 - Seriously. With the rain and 40 degrees!?  It's almost #)@*$# June!  Ran 10.5 before work, put together the batters for Jess's birthday dessert tomorrow!  'Hamburgers' with chocolate chip cookies for buns, brownie for burger, and buttercream frosting for toppings.  All homemade!

5/23/13 - Jess's Birthday!! Jess is at work until 5:30, her last day for 4 months!!  I decorated the house, got flowers, and made her hamburger cookie dessert (homemade chocolate chip cookies, brownies, and frosting with the cookies as buns, the brownie as burger, and the frosting as toppings)!  Then we had our last Pizza night before the baby arrives!  Ran 4.25 + lift

5/24/13 - Friday of Memorial Day weekend.  Ran 10.25.  We've got plans to meet up with Natalia, Riz, & Alosha at Psycho Suzie's to celebrate Jess's birthday.  I get home and Jess says she had a great morning but suddenly feels ill and even throws up!  She rallies though and we head to dinner and have a good time.  We get home about 8.  At 11:30 I'm woken up by Jess saying "My water just broke!"  OMG!  Ok, we keep ourselves calm. call the hospital, get what we need, and head out.  Looks like we won't be waiting til Tuesday for the planned c-section!

5/25/13 - 1:05am we welcome into the world Harper Grace Foltz.  10lbs 8oz, 21.5", and utterly adorable!  The delivery went well, though Jess was a little nervous about the c-section.  After delivery I got to hold Harper for a few pics with Mom, then Harper and I waited in the recovery area for Jess to get stitched back up.  We were up all night but we're all doing well.  Mid-day I headed home for a few things and put in a 5K.
HARPER GRACE FOLTZ
Here we go!
Mom's glad for the spinal

Week 39

5/12/13 - Jess's first Mother's Day!!!  We went out for a great breakfast at Figlio's, relaxed at home, and then got some Coldstone.  Baby girl is going to be here before we know it!!

SO do not feel like a run.  Ran 2 outside.

5/13/13 - I don't know what my deal is but I'm just not mentally up for running still.  It's rainy out so I'm stuck inside when I thought I'd be out.  Ran 3.33 on the treadmill, gave that up and ran 3 more on the track (which is kind of worse), then just stopped.  Hopefully tomorrow & Wed will be better.  Ugh.

5/14/13 - It hit 98 in the Twin Cities today, which is a record high for this time of year.  Two weeks ago Rochester had 18" of snow in May meaning there was a record snowfall and high temp within TWO WEEKS of each other!  Lifted and ran 4.33 outside.   It was a lot hard than 4.33 should be.

5/15/13 - Got up and was running by 6:35am.  It's high 50's and 7mph winds.  Ran around Lake Calhoun and back plus some for 10.3.  It went alright, 1:15:30 (about 7:20min/miles) but I'm still more tired than I feel I should be.  It's either just a tough week or I'm still adjusting to outside running.  Hopefully the former.

5/16/13 - Up early again and ran 4.25 before work, then lifted over lunch.  A little nicer to break it up.  SURPRISING amount of people out running before 7am.  Go team!

5/17/13 - Got up early and went in (this is becoming a habit) to the gym.  Watched Superman Unbound and at least Conner agrees with me that it's pretty boring.  Ran 9.5 because I was just tired and that's where I tapped out.  Jess and I went to see The Great Gatsby.  I just reread the book and it's almost exactly the same.  Kinda boring.  DiCaprio was, as expected, fantastic.

5/18/13 - Rain rain rain!  Brooke and Chloe came over and did our hair (cut mine, dyed Jess's) since we're having a baby and she's having a baby and no one expects to have time for this for the forseeable future.  We're all excited though.  4th of July is going to be crazy at the cabin though!
Also, Karen stopped by to visit before she leaves for a summer in Grand Rapids MI!  Yay internship!
Ran 4.

Week total: 40.71!

Week 38

5/5/13 - Jess and I relaxed in the morning, then I ran 6, and we raked and bagged all the leaves in the yard (fun).  Also, CINCO de MAYO!!  We tried for El Paraiso on Nicollet but it was PACKED so we went down to Chevy's, which was great!  Decorated excellently and the guac and margarita were awesome!

5/6/13 -  Ran 10.25 outside.  Glorious!

5/7/13 - Ran 4.5 outside after lifting, got caught by a train.  Considered running along side it, climbing up, and jumping through.  It was going slow and I know I could do it.  However I also know there's no room for error in something like that and considering the bike accident a month ago Jess would kill me if the train didn't.  So I went to run up and over a bridge, out of my way, and JUST as I cross the bridge the train ends meaning I saved no time at all.  Gah!

5/8/13 - Ran outside again, tiring, but nice.  10.25

5/9/13 - Came in to the gym early before work and I'm just tired.  Did 2/3 of the lifting and ran 3.25.

5/10/13 - In to the gym again early, feel pretty great though.  Ran 10.75 before work.

5/11/13 - It LOOKS so nice out but it's in the 40's with 25-35 mph winds!  Ran 5 in 34:20, last mile at 6:13 pace.

Week total 50!!

Week 37

4/28/13 - It's getting nice out!!  Ran 6 through Theodore Wirth Park

4/29/30 - First long run outside.  Ugh, I can tell I've been running on a treadmill all winter because my legs are a lot more tired than they normally are.  Run along the river and through the U was fantastic though.  Distance 10.25

4/30/13-  Ran 4.25 & lift.

5/1/13 - HAPPY 3 Year Anniversary to Jess & me!!! We are both super busy today but got each other cards (awww) and are having dinner out tomorrow.  Ran 10.25 on the treadmill at 6:30am cause work is SUPER busy.

5/2/13 - Ran 4.25 & lift.  Jess and I went out for dinner at Stella's Fish Cafe.  She's been dying for some crab and we were not disappointed.  We split the fresh crab bucket (Hot Tub) and lobster pasta.  Delicious!

5/3/13 - IRON MAN 3 Day!!  Got to wear my sweet arch reactor shirt today.  Went in early and ran, could only make it 8.5 though, super tired.

Iron Man 3 viewing with Derek, AJ, Reed, and Gjersvik!  Loved it!  Dealt with the fallout of The Avengers, (which makes the whole thing feel more like a real world), Tony Stark as Iron Man rather than the armor being Iron Man, and Don Cheadle, Guy Pierce, and Gwyneth Paltrow were all fantastic!

5/4/13 - Jess and I had our all day baby class today (BABY!) which went well.  We learned some interesting things:
- no lotion on baby
- no mirror or sun shade in back seat with baby
- we need a pediatrician clinic and doc picked out for baby, but don't need to necessarily contact them before. The hospital will do that after the baby is born.
- most products are marked "baby" therefore marked up in price and we don't need it: like baby shampoo and soap. We can use Dove on the baby and its just fine. Burts Bees, Johnson and Johnson? not needed and too expensive
- doing 2 situps with baby twice daily to gain neck strength and head control. C'mon baby!! Do those situps!
- bathing baby only every 3 days
- What to expect in the hospital and not have visitors if we can help it.
- let the nurses do their job and get rest in the hospital when we can and abide by the visiting hours
- that more than 60% of pregnancies go OVER the due date and you should in the beginning add 10 days to your due date, just in case
- 37 weeks is not considered full term: 40 is.  Jess = less than thrilled.  Get outta there baby!!

Afterwards I ran 4.8 while the pizza crust rose and then we had Pizza and Vampires night, yay!!

Week total 48.3!

Week 36

In which we have our final baby shower, the weather starts to turn around, and my sucky work week culminates with buying tickets to the wrong damn Twins game! :(

4/21/13 - Up in Fargo we're getting ready for our last baby shower so I go for a run outside.  Not warm, but not really cold either.  Definitely windy.  Ran 6.0 and did not like it!  Shower went well, lots of Jess's family showed up from each side and everything went very well :)  Thank you to Cheryl and Tara for putting this on!!

4/22/13 - Jess and I are relaxing at home after coming back from Fargo, I hit the gym and ran 8.5.  Rainy out but supposed to get nicer later this week.  Not holding our breath though.

4/23/13 - Well, work is sucking.  A lot of emphasis on our holiday program is making life less than fun for me.  Ran 4.25 & lift.

4/24/13 - Seriously, this holiday thing is making me uber anger.  SO much work for so little payout.  Got up early and was at the gym by 6:30 so I could get that out of the way and spend the morning making 'must have' mockups.  Ran 10.5

4/25/13 - Cousin Hobbes's (Jaimi) birthday!  Weekend forecast still looks awesome (70's) so I bought tickets to Sat Twins game for me and Jess! :)  Ran 4.25 & lift

4/26/13 - I am an idiot!  Jess got home last night and looked at the tickets to realize I bought them for LAST NIGHT's game!!  $50 down the drain, yay!  On the plus side we can now meet up with Riz, Natalia, Jay, & Ally for Sunday's game.  Got up early again and ran 11 before work.  Gorgeous out so Jess and I sat on the beach and had a picnic :)

4/27/13 - Jess wakes up and wants a brat for breakfast but we have to get to the State Fair Grounds for a consignment sale before stuff is gone!  Unfortunately we but didn't find anything (it was all kinda dingy), but there was a food stand there so she got her brat! Then we went to the Farmer's Market (which was sparse due to the weak weather this year so far) and did some grilling at home.  I ran 4.5 to close out the week, then roasted a chicken for dinner and we went to Cold Stone Creamery at night for some ice cream and to enjoy the outdoors some more :)

Week total: 49!

Week 35

4/14/13 - Baby shower!  Thank you SO MUCH to all our friends who came out in the terrible freezing rain/sleet to help us celebrate!  Amee, Sarah B, Sarah O, Kellie, and Karen all put on a great event with excellent food (the chicken lasagna was amazing!), plenty of drinks, and non-lame games!!

Totally lost track of time and couldn't run til after the shower so only ran 1 in the freezing rain.  It sucked.

4/15/13 - First day biking back to work after the crash!  Went well, no incidents, just crazy windy! Ran 10 on the treadmill, wanted to go for 10.5 to make up for the 1 yesterday but no dice.

4/16/13 - Ran 4.75 + lift, adding the .5 I wanted for yesterday.

4/17/13 - Ran 10.5

4/18/13 - Ran 4.5  + lift

4/19/13 - Ran 10.5

4/20/13 - Trip to Fargo for our last Baby shower, woo!!  Ran 4.5 in the gym up there to get a week total of 45!

Week total - 45!

Monday, April 15, 2013

Week 34

4/7/13 - Ran 1.5 to the Theodore Wirth playground, did some pullups, ran around the lake there 1.5, did some more pullups, ran 1.5 home.  Total 4.5  Tired - YES!

Then met Julie, Chad, Courtney, Chris, Merrin, and John out for breakfast at Famous Daves.  Best wings ever! Though it took them an hour to seat us!

4/8/13 - Left my wallet in the car!  Searched the entire house for any kind of cash and only came up with $1.70.  Guess I'm working from home today.  Ran 9.0 outside.  Still really sweaty after runs but getting better and my chest is hurting less.

4//9/13 - Did some lifting but tired on running.  Made it 3.25, though it was a struggle.

4/10/13 - OMG first run since the accident that wasn't terrible!  Ran 10.25 while watching Being Human (US version) and it went well and I feel not completely wiped out after!

4/11/13- Back to normal again!  Ran 4.25 + lift!

4/12/13 - At the gym by 6:45 cause Jess has to work early, the weather sucks, and she's been giving me rides to work. Ran 10.5, feel great!

4/13/13 - Ran 4, then had a great breakfast at the Low Brow with Ally, Jay, Clint, and Amee!  Great to be out with people and not recovering!  Delicious pancakes!  Was going to get the Elvis sandwich but they use Skippy PB so pass.  Then we went to Houlihan's for dinner and Dave & Buster's after for Reed's 27th birthday!  Who knew D&B was the place to be on a Sat night?
Happy Birthday Reed!

Week total 45.75!

Week 33 - Running again

So I'm finally running again after 8 days off to recover from my bike crash and what a difference a week makes!

4/2/13 - So, no idea what's in store for me today as I just spent 8 days not running after 202 straight days of running.  Figured I should start slow.  Did some lifting and was able to run 3.25.

4/3/13 -  Was able to run 8.25 (i.e. 1 hour) but it feels tough.  Can't hardly focus on anything except running (i.e. unable to watch a show on my tablet)

4/4/13 - Lifted and able to run 4.25, feel a little better.

4/5/13 - Ran 8.5 but it's still more effort than it had been.  Also I'm sweating like a demon post running which had gone away.  It's like I was capable and hyper efficient and now I'm just capable.

4/6/13 - Ran outside, 6.65 and it's still difficult.  My chest hurts more than normal and I'm still sweating like crazy but at least I'm out there.

Truncated week total: 30.90.  Not too bad for a short week post recover.

Week 33 - CRASH!!!

3/24/13 - Went for a run outside, 4.25

3/25/13 - BIKE CRASH!! On my way in to work my chain slipped off right by the Walker, caught, and I got thrown.  I landed on my face pretty bad. Luckily some construction workers saw me go down, called the ambulance, and even held my bike at their site until I could come back for it!

They took me to the HCMC ED (Emergency Department, not a room), and after the CT scan showed nothing abnormal I got stiches above my eye, under my eye, next to my eye, on my lip and inside my mouth. Also they reset my broken nose which hurt like hell even with being numbed. Doc did a great job on the stitches though.

Jess was a little freaked out to get a call from the hospital saying 'your husband's been in an accident', but was much relieved to find me messed up but ok.  I am super lucky I didn't break my orbital bone, clavicle, teeth, or anything in my head!

Fun story of the day, my heart rate was 40 when they brought me in, which I assured them was normal.  Then when I was waiting in a room for stitching and such they had to recalibrate the machine to not alarm as my resting rate was about 33 and if I dozed at all it'd dip to 29 and I'd have to move my legs to keep the alarm from going off.  Doc said he'd never seen a normal heart rate that low :)

Sadly this broke my uninterrupted streak of running.  I spent the rest of the week working from home and recovering.  I was on a liquid diet for 5 of the days cause it hurt too much to open my mouth and that was terrible!

I was able to start running again 4/2/13.  I'm continuing as if nothing happened and adding 8 days on at the end.

Thank god I had these on!!

Week 32

3/17/13 - Happy St. Patrick's Day!  My god it's cold outside! 23, feels like 9, 15 mph wind.  Damnit we were playing bags in the 70's last year! Ran 3 to get my bike and then biked 3 back home.  Jess and I went to the James J Hill House, which was interesting. We were thinking of Downton Abby the whole time. I really want to go back for the Nooks & Crannies tour too.  Corned beef and cabbage for dinner!

3/18/13 - Wanted to run more but still tired from the race.  Ran 5.0

3/19/13 - Ran 4.25 + lift
3/20/13 - Feeling better, ran the full 10.25
3/21/13 - Ran 4.25 + lift
3/22/13 - Ran 10.25
3/23/13 - Jess and Amee are having brunch so I went to the gym.  Ran 4.25 + lift

Week total 41.25!

Monday, March 18, 2013

Week 31

In which the Gjersviks both have a birthday I question the thrill of a lame race course, and discover I'm the fastest man in town!

3/10/13 - Had breakfast at Pinstripes in Edina to celebrate Matt & Susan Gjersvik's birthdays (his is today, hers is the 14th). Ran 4.5 outside...spring's almost here!

3/11/13 - Set out to run 10, just out of energy/drive to go any farther than 5.1 :(

3/12/13 - Ran 4.25 + lift

3/13/13 - Finally getting back to regular, ran 10.25 but it took 4 to actually feel like I want to run

3/14/13 - Ran 4 + lift

3/15/13 - Want to run more but want to conserve for tomorrow.  Ran 3.30 after walking all over the skyway with Chris to pickup packets for the Get Lucky.

3/16/13 - Get Lucky half marathon!!  8am start time, SO COLD!!  Seriously 8am hit and everyone was jumping around trying to stay warm and the announcer says "Ok, here we go." THEN sings the national anthem.  Goddamnit, just say go! Started out strong, ran the first half (6.55) in 44,51 (6:51 min / mile), but it was definitely aggressive because the second half was brutal. Almost entirely uphill and into the wind. The cold cold wind. I don't think I've ever hated a run any more than this one. I finished at 1:31:54 (7:01 min/mile) which is a respectable time but I hated this course. It was boring and bland.

On the plus side, I'm the fastest man in town!

Post race, met up with Ben & Sarah (who ran the 7k), Kellie (who ran 12 for her SF marathon training), Engle, and Ally & Jay who mercifully got us a table at Coopers which then EXPLODED with racers!

Week total 45 (counting the to and from the car and prep for the race)

Monday, March 11, 2013

Week 30

In which we get slammed with more snow, I run a half marathon for the hell of it, break my week total record, and cross the 1,000 mile mark!!

3/3/13 - It's my birthday!!  By sheer coincidence the 3.6 I ran today got me across the 1,000 mile mark!

Feeling a little rough from Pub & Putt yesterday but on the whole pretty good.  Jess got me an awesome card (see the pic) a sweet Wustof knife, and Skyfall!  Also got a bunch of cookbooks from Mom!  Ran  around West End before heading off to Legends to meet up with tons of friends (The Moes, The Matchenbachers, The Gjersviks, Ally, Jay, Amee, Clint, Karen, Derrick, Lindsey, and surprise guests Riz & Natalia New with ONE WEEK old baby Alyosha)!

3/4/13 - Holy crap snow!!  Looks like we got about 4 inches with more predicted tonight.  Ran 10.25

3/5/13 - Ok, even more snow!  Got up to snow blow, at least 8 inches.  Biking in was SLOW! Ran 4.2 (to make up for the .6 of Sunday) + lift

3/6/13 - Z's birthday! Since Gabe forgot Z's birthday last year he and Lana had the family send Gabe 'subtle' reminders.  Jess had the brilliant idea to send Z's card to Gabe with the note "Hey Gabe, will you send this to Zach for us?  p.s You can add your name if you need to."  Hahahahaha Brilliant!   Ran 10.25

3/7/13 - Ran 4.2 + lift, made artichoke crab dip pizza.  Pretty good but the dip called for a T of mustard and I think it threw the whole thing off.  Won't do that again.

3/8/13 - I almost did this Wed but didn't have the time.  Ran 13.1 (that's a half marathon)!  Near the end I was more bored than tired (though there was some of that).  Total time: 95.20.  Not bad but I'll need to pick it up if I'm going to qualify for Boston.

3/9/13 - Cheryl's in town this weekend so we (Jess, Cheryl, Brooke, Chloe, Devon, Tara, and I) went out to breakfast at the aways awesome Lowery , then I took the munchkins back to the house for some Xbox Kinect and workout routines (Devon's got a whole series of exercises he does every night apparently).  Ran 4.4 at the Ridgedale Y once the Moms/Aunts/Grandma got back.

Week total: NEW RECORD 50 miles!!

Monday, March 4, 2013

Week 29

A week full of baby prep, the first outside runs in quite awhile, and soccer hooligans!
_________________________________________________________________________
2/24/13 -  Got up early and finished painting baby's room!  Seriously, this is like a 9 hour project total.  Jess made some awesome Rugelach from the dough I put together yesterday while I painted.  She made banana peanut butter and cream cheese strawberry ruhbarb!  So delicious!  Great wife!
Wow it's warm out today (high 20's, no wind). Ran 5 in 36 min, I think, I wasn't really timing and I was guessing the distance but that seems about right.

2/25/13 - Still nice out so went for my first long run outside since (I think) San Diego. Great run, I can tell that I've gotten faster but I can also feel the hills!  Definitely a little more sore afterwards than typical.  Great to be outside though!  10.25 miles

2/26/13 - Ran 4 + lift

2/27/13 - I am definitely feeling tired today.  It took me 4 miles just to feel like I wanted to run.  On the plus side, I ran 4 miles not wanting to and then got into a groove.  Ended up running 10.25

2/28/13 - Ran 4 + lift

3/1/13 -  End of week 1 for new hire Matt Culver, and it's also move day, meaning that everyone is out by noon.  Matt was GOING to come running with me but went to Chipotle instead.  Liz-AME! He missed out though, I was really feeling it today, ended up running 10.5 in 76 minutes!

3/2/13 - Pub & Putt! Got up early to run 1.0 since we're meeting our team (Amee, Clint, Derrick) at 9am.
Pub & Putt was a lot of fun!

We were soccer hooligans, Cody, Reed, Hilary, & Mackie were Canadian curlers, and AJ, Drew, Trevor, & Jake were Team 'Merica! with AJ as Cap'n 'Merica!  The result was a lot of Brit/American fights where the Canadians tried to keep the peace "Ya, hey guys, can't we just have some Tim Horton's and get along eh?"

WEEK TOTAL: 44!

Week 28

A week that starts out slow and finishes strong, full of some random Gjersvik encounters, new gyms, and the best French toast bake ever!
______________________________________________________________________

2/17/13 - Matt Gjersvik stopped by (after Will's swim lessons) and gave us a Wonder Woman baby book (possibly the first of many superhero themed baby items)! Baby Foltz is due on Will's 2nd birthday :)
Jess dropped me off at the Edina Y (ran 4.0 + lift) and went shopping for baby room stuff :)  We tried to go to Red Cow for dinner but they don't officially open until tomorrow!  Had a great meal at Edina grill though and ran into Susan Gjersvik! Crazy!

2/18/13 - OMG I have zero for energy.  Seriously I started out for 10 miles, made it 4, and just want to lay down and sleep!

2/19/13 - Ran 4.0 + lift

2/20/13 - Feeling a lot better, energy wise, ran 10, debated going further but didn't really have the time.

2/21/13 - Ran 4.1 + lift

2/22/13 - Work from home day!  Off to the Ridgedale Y (my weekend Y).  They just moved everything to a larger, and much nicer room and being there before 9am on a Friday gave me pretty much the run of the place.  Ran 10 in 72:30 (7:15 min/miles)

2/23/13 - Back at Ridgedale for an early run, much more busy on a Saturday!  Ran 6 in 42:18 (7:03 min/mile) spurred on by the guy next to me who kept increasing his speed.  He didn't go as fast or far as me and yet it pushed me to go faster.  At these speeds I'm going to have to run some kind of race soon.
Then, we went over to Julie Heck's for awesome brunch with her, Chad, Courtney James, Chris Washick, and the best French Toast bake ever!

Week total: 42.10!

Week 27

First 11.0 miler of this endeavor and first true 1.0 miler in over 6 weeks!
_______________________________________________________________________

2-10-13: I'm feeling less than 100% after the wedding reception last night.  Finally managed to drag myself outside, in the snowstorm, to run 1.0.  Been awhile since I held to the minimum but trust me, more was just not happening.

2-11-13: Ran 8.25 in just over an hour, could probably push for the 10 but don't really feel like it.

2-12-13: Ran 4.0 + lift, though running at 7 min miles might be pushing it a bit much

2-13-13: OMG tired.  It was all I could do to get 6 and then this lady who only ever walks on the treadmill was all "Did you spray that paper towel you're wiping down the treadmill with? Will you make sure to spray it?" Sure lady, that's my )@#(*$# priority! I'm clearly exhausted and JUST finished running and I AM wiping the treadmill down, but yeah, I'll do it again for your lily ass.

2-14-13: Valentine's Day & John's (Jess's Dad) bday.  Jess got me a card and cupcakes last night.
She and I always celebrate on the 20th to avoid crowds and because it's the anniversary of when I proposed, so to completely throw her off I had flowers sent to her at work!  She was totally surprised! :)
Ran 4.25 + lift

2-15-13: Finally feeling like I have some energy for running.  Started out planning to run 10 and then just went to 11 for the hell of it. Hit up Psycho Suzies with Riz, Natalia (who's due in 2 weeks!), Ally, Jay, & Michelle.  Best pizza in town!

2-16-13:  Treadmill is finally fixed!  Jess doesn't want me running on it since she thinks I broke it last time.  While I contend that it goes to 12 mph and has a weight rating of 295 lbs and thus I was not putting excess stress on it, it did still break, so I don't have a strong leg to stand on.  Went to the gym, got in the zone again, and ran 6.5.  Also, sold our spare bed to make room in the Baby's Room!

Week Total : 41!

Week 26 (HALF A YEAR!)

Half a year of a mile a day!!
________________________________________________________________________

2-3-13: Sunday in Lutsen and it's colder than ever! Played at the pool again, feet are kind of rubbed raw from the bottom.  Ran 8.5 in 1 hr!
Oh, also it's Superbowl Sunday (woo)  We're going to be making these awesome taco cups, chili, and crab dip wraps.  Or, JESS is making the taco cups and crab wraps and I'm making the chili.  We played a bunch of games and I won $25 in the last minute family pool based on the scores at the end of the quarters.  Clearly this is a result of my vast and massive sports knowledge!

2-4-13: OMG we're finally going skiing!  Who cares that the high is 10!?  Devon and Paul stayed on the bunny hill all day, Bruce doesn't want to ski due to a nasty fall he took on the skating pond yesterday, Katie's snowboard is new, and apparently crap, and Tony is a pretty green skier and wants to hang with Katie.  Result, Pete ski's alone all day!  Being so cold and a Monday, NO ONE was on the hills.  Seriously, most every run was total powder, it was great!  All the non skiers came up to the Chalet around mid-day, which was fun.  Got back and ran a 6 min mile.

2-5-13: Got up and ran 3.0 before we took off.  It's been a great trip, would definitely do again!

2-6-13: Ugh.  Back to stupid work :(  Ran 4 + lift

2-7-13: Ran 10

2-8-13: Ran 4.0 + lift

2-9-13: Hit the gym and ran 6.0 before Melinda and John's reception, which was a total blast!  The 'Un-Booth' photo booth was super fun!

Amee is really scared!

It's Jess! (and the rest of us)

The moment that inspired all of this nonsense

Battle!

Really guys?

Grrrrr!

Week total 36.5!

Week 25

This is why you need to keep up on your blogging because otherwise you get the raw data from each day but have no idea why

_________________________________________________________________________________

1/27/13 - Full day ahead and snowstorm coming so got up and ran 4.4
Breakfast at The Lyndale Taphouse (cheesy grits with shrimp and bacon!) with Riz & Natalia.  Excellent time as always.  Then off to see the Moe's and baby Charlie.  Adorbs!

1/28/13 - Ran 5.15

1/29/13 - Ran 4 + lift

1/30/13 - Ran 8.0

1/31/13 - Ran 4 + lift

2/1/13 - Went to the gym real quick to run 4 then off to Lutsen! We had a nice drive up and the condo looks great! Should be a good time.

2/2/13 - Lutsen, day 1. Jess and I made chocolate chip pancakes and bacon for breakfast.  Seems a little cold today so we're going to wait until tomorrow to ski. Went and played in the pool for awhile, also played a dice game that Paul introduced us to and a 'somewhat' awkward game of Cards Against Humanity.

Week total: 35.05

Week 24

1/20/13 - Hit the gym cause the treadmill's got a busted walking platform at home, have a tech scheduled to come out for that.  Ran 4.15 + lift

1/21/13 - The high temp today is -4!  When I biked in (yes I biked in) the wind chill was -32.  That's 64 degrees to get to freezing!!  I wore extra socks, extra pants, and my down coat, which all kept me warm but even with my super thick ski gloves I had to start flexing my fingers to keep them from going numb after 1/4 of a mile!  Ran 10.0 on the treadmill.

1/22/13 - Ran 4.15 + lift

1/23/13 - Been listening to Europe radio on Pandora.  It's so completely random!  I'm getting Stevie Wonder, GNR, the BeeGee's, and fricken Linkin Park!  Also, apparently I like 70's pop/disco a lot more than I thought I did.  Interestingly I'm hearing a lot of songs I know, but didn't realize who they were by.  Like Superstition is by Stevie Wonder. Makes sense, but I couldn't have told you that. Europe also has a song called Superstition.  Crazy!

Ran 10 while watching Being Human North American version.  Long treadmill runs are great for me to watch shows that I wouldn't otherwise take the time to.

1/24/13 - Ok, freaky.  Pretty much every tree in Loring Park and down to Nicollet was FULL of crows this morning.  So loud I could hear them from 3 blocks away.  I kept thinking "what the hell is that?  Oh, a super giant murder of crows, that's comforting."
Ran 4.2 + lift

1/25/13 - Jess is off to Grace Potter & the Nocturnals (lucky) with some lady friends. Ran 10.0

1/26/13 - Jess and I hit the gym before heading out to see the Irish trio band Heritage.
Ran 6.5 to get 49 for the week!  Average of 7 per day!

Week 23

1/13/13 - Great breakfast at Whiskey Junction (really), $11.99 buffet with crab legs and the best prime rib I've had in awhile!  Amee, Clint, Julie, & Chad joined us :)  Ran 3.0
Happy 30th Birthday Morgan!!!  Jess wasn't feeling well, I met up with Morgan, Kat, and some of their friends at Eat Street Social, had a fantastic Old Fashioned (my current fav drink).

1/14/13 - COLD today.  High is 11.  Ran 10 while watching the first half of Total Recall.

1/15/13 - Ran 5.5 Jess and I find out the sex of the baby today!! We got an envelope from the ultrasound tech, had Barley's make a mini cake for us and went out to dinner at Amore Victoria (delicious).  Jess was super nervous as I cut the cake.  It's a girl!! We're so excited! After dinner Jess was so pumped that we just had to go to the mall and pick out a little outfit for baby girl :)

1/16/17 - Ran 4.0 + lift.  No one noticed the bowl of pink M&M's at the end of my desk.

1/17/13 - Ran 10 and finished Total Recall.  No big twist ending which was actually a twist.  Overall, meh.  Great futuristic setting but nothing spectacular.  Excellent John Cho cameo though.

1/18/13 - Ran 4.0 + lift

1/19/13 - Bruce & Cheryl are in town this weekend. Got up early to get the run out of the way, 5.5 around Cedar Lake, then Bruce and I took Devon & Chloe to the water park at the Depot while the ladies went baby shopping.

Week 22

1/6/13 -  Chill day at home with Jess who's been under the weather for the past few weeks.  Made great scones that Sarah & Brian gave us for Christmas (woo!) and went to see Jack Reacher, which we both liked.  Ran 3.0

1/7/13 - It's in the 30's today!  Outside run!  Ran 10.5 at an average pace of 7:28!

1/8/13 - OMG tired!  I think my run from yesterday has wiped me out more than I expected. Ran 2.0 + lift.  Went home, slept.

1/9/13 - Still nice out (low 30's) so went for a run outside.  Oh my god the wind sucks.  About the last 35 minutes I did not want to be running.  Ran 10

1/10/13 - Stupid New Year's Resolution jerks (<-- Read that link, hilarious!)  Gym is packed! Ran 2.5 + lift

1/11/13 - Ugh. I don't know what it is but my body does not seem to want to engage in physical activity.  I started out for a 10 miler but I'm just wiped.  I feel like I have nothing.  Turned around and ended up running an odd route.  Made it 5.9

1/12/13 - Dropped Jess off at work at 6:45 am, went to the Edina Y (which is really nice) not sure what to expect after yesterday.  Exact opposite!  Tons of energy!  Ran 6.25 PLUS lift!  After I picked Jess up we went for late lunch at the rebuilt Nook.  Just as good as ever!

Week 21

12/30/12 - Lazy day at home for me & Jess, no complaints!  Ran 5.0 Then 3rd annual New Year's Eve Eve party at Tron's!

12/31/12 - Ran 10.0 while watching the original Longest Yard.  Burt Reynold's outfits are awesome but overall it's kind of boring.

New Years Eve! Chris & Courtney once again threw a great party!  Best part was playing Pictonary/hangman with everyone's New Year's resolutions.  Jess's is to learn the Gangham Style dance :-)

1/1/13 - TWENTY THIRTEEN!! Also, what would have been my Dad's 62nd birthday. :-( Miss you Dad. Went out to breakfast at The Lowry with Jay, Ally, Riz, Natalia, Amee, Clint, Lindsey, & Derek.  Always a good time! Ran 3.1

1/2/13 - Ugh.  Holidays are over, back to work :p  Ran 2.25 + lift.  I am not a fan of the new treadmills at the gym.

1/3/13 - New treadmills at the gym seem much harder.  I can run 10 miles at home at an 8.6 mph / 1.0 incline but I had a difficult time maintaining a 7.6 mph / 0.0 incline for 10 miles here.  There's no way that's reasonable.  I even asked a trainer at the gym about it and he A) doesn't run on treadmills and B) hadn't heard any other complains so, no help there.  Seriously, WTF?

1/4/13 - Ran 2.0 on the track cause, @#)*# that treadmill + lift + new elliptical type machine where you move your legs in a left to right circle.  Figure this might be good prep for Lutsen at the end of the month.

1/5/13 - Ran 10.0 on our treadmill at home, MUCH easier than the gym treadmill, while watching Ghost Rider 2.  Better than the first, plus I think Nicolas Cage acting crazy is just hilarious.

Week 20

12/23/12 - Breakfast with Mom & Brother in La Jolla left me wanting to punch people.  Hippy coffee shop workers mostly.  Seriously, $12 for black beans, unflavored eggs, and cornmeal logs touted as flautas?  AND you can't bring me my coffee until halfway through the meal?  Didn't eat it, cause !@#)* them.  Got back and ran 10.0 full of rage.  RAGE!
Oh, and we had a 'boys night out' (always a fav of mine) in downtown San Diego.  On the plus side we found a 'secret' bar (called the Noble Experiment) that had an honest to god fake door/wall that looked like a stack of kegs.  This is an actual picture:

You're supposed to text ahead to get in.  They laughed when one of our party ordered a Makers Mark.  "I'm sorry, we only have small batch here."  A) Awesome!  B) Hardly fair for the order-er who doesn't even drink whiskey/bourbon/scotch.  Poor bastard was just trying to fit in!

12/24/12 - Oh my dear lord we drank more than I thought last night because I. Do. Not. Feel. Well!  Spent the day prepping for both present opening (including a poppyseed debacle) and dinner with the Foltz & Demsky crew.  Ran 2.75 and nearly threw up most of the trip.  Dinner & presents went well, everyone seemed to like their gifts.  Baby Vivian is a big fan of the stuffed wolf we got her and Mom loves her Kindle Fire.  Brother got me the best present of all, land in Scotland!  Making me an official Lord!  Boosh!!

12/25/12 - Merry Christmas!!  Ran 1.1 before we flew out.  Long day, got laid over in Phoenix for 7 hours and still just barely made our flight.  Super thanks to Brooke & Bobby for picking us up, at the airport, on Christmas day, at midnight!!  All we had 2 sandwiches and some cookies (thank you Jenny!!) until 1am when we finally got home and split a frozen pizza, yay Christmas!

12/26/12 -  Recovery day!  Yesterday was SUPER long and we're just relaxing and trading gifts.  I got super awesome blue tooth headphones from Jess, high five wife!  Had to haggle for run time since it's our Christmas day off together.  Ran 3.045 (I got 21 min of time)

12/27/12 - Back to work.  Poop to that! :(  Ran 2.50 + lift.  I actually ran 2.0 while I lifted but then another 0.5 because my rear tire blew, I had to take the damn bus home, and I was waiting so @)#*wU long for the bus I had to sprint the 0.5 from the bus stop to pee! *angry face*

12/28/12 - Brought my Motorola Xoom (which I love!) with me to the gym intending to watch The Expendables 2  while I ran 10 miles. It's 19 out and snowed last night, I am not in the mood to run outside. For some damn reason I am exhausted! I make it 5 miles, but 3 of those miles I run at 8 min miles, which sucks since my standard pace is 7:30 or less.  When I get home later I ran 6 miles at a 7:05 average pace, so, what the hell!?  Finished the movie though. Ridiculous and fantastic, exactly what you want from it. My favorite line is from Jason Statham though:
Stallone: "Why are you yelling at me?"
Statham: "Because you gave me the shit job! Next time I see you, I'm going to shoot you in the face."

12/29/12 - Ran 5 after Jess and I saw This is 40. Meh.

Total miles ran on vacation: 37.5!
