3/25/13 - BIKE CRASH!! On my way in to work my chain slipped off right by the Walker, caught, and I got thrown. I landed on my face pretty bad. Luckily some construction workers saw me go down, called the ambulance, and even held my bike at their site until I could come back for it!
They took me to the HCMC ED (Emergency Department, not a room), and after the CT scan showed nothing abnormal I got stiches above my eye, under my eye, next to my eye, on my lip and inside my mouth. Also they reset my broken nose which hurt like hell even with being numbed. Doc did a great job on the stitches though.
Jess was a little freaked out to get a call from the hospital saying 'your husband's been in an accident', but was much relieved to find me messed up but ok. I am super lucky I didn't break my orbital bone, clavicle, teeth, or anything in my head!
Fun story of the day, my heart rate was 40 when they brought me in, which I assured them was normal. Then when I was waiting in a room for stitching and such they had to recalibrate the machine to not alarm as my resting rate was about 33 and if I dozed at all it'd dip to 29 and I'd have to move my legs to keep the alarm from going off. Doc said he'd never seen a normal heart rate that low :)
Sadly this broke my uninterrupted streak of running. I spent the rest of the week working from home and recovering. I was on a liquid diet for 5 of the days cause it hurt too much to open my mouth and that was terrible!
I was able to start running again 4/2/13. I'm continuing as if nothing happened and adding 8 days on at the end.
| Thank god I had these on!! |
